Mino Bimaadiziwin Counseling Services
Mino Bimaadiziwin is Ojibway for "The Good Life," or "Living Well." Mino means good or well and Bimaadiziwin translates to life. The name Mino Bimaadiziwin came about as a sentiment to my father. My mother and father were both alcoholics and while my father was given the chance to "sober up," my mother
was not so lucky. She was murdered before she had that opportunity. My mother's death however; was a marker for change. I [like my mom & dad] battled addictions for many years and it was my father who showed me that there was life after addiction. My father walked beside me as I stumbled through life making many attempts at recovery. We spent a lot of time early on in my recovery and this is where I caught on to the the Ojibway language and teachings. Although my mother was Mohawk and the Mohawk people are a matriarchal society I am grateful for everything I have learned from my dad. As I continue on this healing and wellness journey and travel back to the teachings of the Mohawk people I will take one lesson with me everywhere I go. And that lesson I learned from my father; that I come to realize for myself is that life is good. The good life it is a decision you make for yourself when you decide to heal.
